News Updates

Sorry for the lack of recent news – I’ve been out on the river most of the season which seems, by the way, to have been a mixed bag for most of us.

I’m going to try and do something with the front page of the site so we can have more recent postings on view, but just for now the most exciting news is that last night while fishing above Settle Weir I met a couple of wild-life photographers who have taken some absolutely brilliant shots of wildlife on our river. If you go to the gallery now you’ll find some of their wonderful pictures there together with a link to their website. They are really fantastic photographers – do check them out.

Newspaper article on Gallery photo (see Gallery photo):

A 7 lb sea trout with a length of 27 in and a girth of 14 in hangs at the Clapham home of Mr Bert Cross. Near it is the rod on which it was caught – a light trout rod patched here and there where breakages have occurred in the past and just 22 yrs old.
Mr Cross is still wondering how he managed to land the large sea trout with tackle so inadequate for the job. The heaviest fish he has hooked down the years was a brown trout weighing 1 1/2 lb.
He was using a wet fly, Peter Ross, and casting from the banks of the Wenning near CLapham Railway Station when he felt his line tighten. It was the old rod’s finest hour (actually 55 mins), and Mr Cross was so elated that he hardly noticed the walk of 1 ½ miles back to his home in the village. “The old rod was bent almost double, but amazingly it did not break,” he reported.
